Kray Z Comics and Stories 18: Late Books, the EPIC Conclusion!

It’s PART 3 of our discussion on late books! We also discuss snacks at movie theaters, the cost of pizza in Alaska, Cory’s new Part Time job, and other silliness!  Then, we pick up where we left off with Brian Hibbs’s lawsuit against Marvel, how late comics killed a chain of video stores, how late comics were dealt with in modern era. We also talk about how Civil War caused comic shops to close, how late books can cause a comic shop to lose money. Cory crunches the numbers to give an example of how a late book would ruin a business. Then, as we speed toward the mighty conclusion, we discuss how we personally handle late books and hint at the first Kray Z Gathering!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 17: Late Books Part 2

It’s part two of our late book discussion! However, there are the usual digressions into the Jonah Hex movie, text based adventure games, Marvel Fanfare, Fantastic Four “The Lost Adventure”, Marvel Zombies, people who used to buy 2 copies of every comic they bought, Image and other stories from our time in comics.

But the main focus is how late books were handled in the 80’s and how things worked in the early 90’s. We make it up to the end of the comics boom of the 90’s…so this will be continued Yet Again!! And if we’re talking late books in the 90’s, you KNOW we’re talking about Deathmate!

And here’s the Warlock story

Kray Z Comics and Stories 16: Late Books Part 1

Think that late comics are something new?  Well it’s NOT!  After reading one of our listeners talk about late comics, we decided to jump in with a history of late comics.  We talk about comics being late from the 40’s to the 70’s, with discussions of how they were handled in the Golden Age, late books of the 50’s (including MAD as a magazine), how Marvel used Jack Kirby to keep the trains running on time, and the disaster that was Marvel’s publishing schedule of the 70’s.

We also deal with Joe’s internet issues in the foreign land of Alaska, updates on Cory’s job hunt, endless editing together of dropped Skype calls and the latest comic EVER:  Detective Comics 567, which had a story that was turned in 15 years late!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 14: Sales Stories

After last week’s sad news avalanche, we have one more bit of sad news before we get into the podcast.  OK, two more, but if we said there was a LOT more bad news it may depress you too much to listen.  However, we talk sales figures, so that can be sad news as well.

We count down the top ten comics and graphic novels for April 2010,m with snarky commentary and stories along the way.  Cory goes into detail about what he thinks the figures mean as Joe gives his own personal perspective.  We then discuss why people quit collecting, talk about previous price hikes, and discuss how Marvel going from 15 cents to 25 cents and then 20 cents over a three month period finally made them the best selling comics company in the 70’s.   All this and the usual shenanigans into this week’s podcast!
