  • Dan fills us in on the local convention scene, and conventions he will be attending as a guest.
  • Cory!! talked about the three upcoming Thanos omnibussesses because Cory!! is all abut the Omnibus format
  • Cory!! gives a Hanging at the Home story

Solitaire Rose Radio 75: Tom Peyer and Stuart Moore Say Ahoy!

Cory!! welcomes Tom Peyer and Stuart Moore from Ahoy comics! They talk about their new company, Ahoy, and their books The Wrong Earth and Captain Ginger.

The books they discuss are:

The Wrong Earth, a six-issue mini-series by Tom Peyer and artist Jamal Igle. The book’s lead story will tell the story of what happens when two alternate earth versions of a character named Dragonflyman (one a brutal anti-hero and another an adventurer) switch places.

Captain Ginger a space opera set on a starship that is staffed by cats who behave like cats. They’re human cats who really act like cats, written by Stuart Moore and drawn by June Brigman.

They discuss the idea of starting a new company, what Ahoy does differently, and what it’s like moving from the editorial chair to the creative chair. It’s a great discussion with two long-time comics pros!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 380: Tales From The Shop, So Much Joe

ICV2.com has an article about how comic shops can combat buying on-line, and Joe takes over completely so that Cory!! can take a nap! Joe talks about how he set his store apart from other shops, first with vintage action figures and then becoming the destination for new action figure collectors. He then goes into thing he did to make his shop and experience, tricks of the trade and what a shop should be doing now to get a log up on competitors.

They also discuss:

  • Joe has not gotten his DCBService box and is tracking it like he’s a kid watching NORAD’s Santa coverage.
  • How both Cory!! and Joe would rush to make sure they got comics as soon as possible when they were younger.
  • Bob Burden is selling his Canceled Comics Cavalcade, and Cory!! explains why that is a big deal.
  • Joe wonders how he would have handled manga when it exploded in 2002.
  • Why has there never been a comic shop chain?
  • What is the #1 thing a shop can do can combat on-line shopping?
  • Joe can’t understand why Cory!! would never want to own his own business.

All of this, the usual shenanigans and much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 379: If Marvel Published DC

We got interrupted last week, so we’re going to go BACK to that idea:

Back in 1984, DC made an overture to Marvel to have Marvel become the publisher for the DC comics characters. Marvel eventually turned it down due to concerns about being seen as a monopoly, but instead, in OUR podcast, what would WE have done if we were in charge of Marvel to start the DC Universe as a part of Marvel publishing in 1986! Cory!! and Joe go over their ideas including:

  • Having Secret Wars be a part of the integration
  • How would this have changed Crisis on Infinite Earths
  • Joe and Cory!! disagree about how to handle the time after Marvel starts publishing DC
  • Did the previous crossovers between Marvel and DC “Happen” in this new multiverse?
  • What is the fundamental difference between Marvel and DC?
  • How would new pitches be brought in to the combined company?

All of this, the usual shenanigans and much, much more!!
