Kray Z Comics and Stories 378: Topicus Interruptus

Cory!! and Joe talk about the offer that Time Warner made to Marvel back in 1984. They wanted to put together a deal to license their characters from DC for Marvel to publish, and the plans moved forward until Marvel’s lawyers put the kibosh on it. They BEGIN to discuss this, but a big news story breaks while they are recording, and the topic shifts to the announcement that Roman Reigns will be fighting leukemia…

  • Joe wants to know what Cory!! will do if he won the MegaMillions lottery and Cory!! bores him with his answer
  • Why Joe and Cory!! couldn’t get 7-11 cups
  • Why was First Comics founded?
  • Why was Epic’s “Void Indigo” and the Marvel “Nightmare on Elm Street” magazine canceled after 2 issues?
  • Cory!! and Joe discuss the office politics at DC that made the Post-Crisis “universe” such a mess.
  • Joe starts to give his ideas for how to merge the Marvel and DC universes
  • The life of Bill Mantlo after comics

All of this, the usual shenanigans and much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 377: We Bought It!

There’s a big old stack of comics that Joe and Cory!! have read lately, so rather than some silly there, they just talk about them. Think about it, a whole episode where they talk about the comics they have read! Comics like:

  • Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Comic
  • Infinity Siblings
  • Amazing Spider-Man annual
  • Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive
  • Heroes in Crisis
  • Where Monsters Dwell
  • Starlord
  • 1984/1994 – The Warren magazines
  • Asgardians of the Galaxy
  • Return of Wolverine

OK, they do talk about other things, such as:

  • Joe found a Land of the Lost reunion conventions.
  • Cory!! goes over the September comics sales chart
  • How can comics shops cash in on TV and movie tie-ins?

All of this, the usual shenanigans and much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 376: December Previews!

It’s that time! No, not for Cory to quit the show and build a fort out of omnibusesses, but for Joe “Kray Z” Rider and your charming and delightful old uncle rat-bastard to go through Previews and discuss the comics they are excited about coming out in December! Because of that, it’s a long one, and they also discuss:

  • Joe went to FallCon in Minnesota and gives an update on the convention
  • Cory!! did not
  • Joe can’t recommend Weapon Brown’s reprint enough!!
  • Is Cory!! interested in the reboot of The Rocketeer?
  • Would you pay $1500 for a book about Stan Lee?

All of this, the usual shenanigans, and much, much more!

Kray Z Comics and Stories 374: Movie Adaptations!

Joe has a LOT to say about the Bat Pole to start the episode, so be prepared for about 5 minutes of jokes along those lines. Cory!! talked about the new podcast he is starting up so you get that new in this episode.  But that’s not what they are getting together to talk about.  Instead, it’s all about comics adapting movies!  They talk about the start of movie adaptations, how it changed over the years and what is the state of that odd genre now!  They also discuss:   movie adaptation in comics!

  • -What company did adaptations in the 40’s through the 60’s.
  • -Why older adaptation art didn’t look like the movie or actors.
  • -The first co-production from Marvel and DC was a movie adaptation
  • -What is the movie adaptation that saved Marvel from bankruptcy
  • -Joe and Cory!! go over the movie adaptation in the Marvel Super Special magazine
  • -DC’s movie adaptation
  • -Marvel’s shift in adaptations to do prequels to movies in the 90’s
  • -A new “Hangin’ at the Home”

All of this, the usual shenanigans and much, much more!
